Who accepts backup care?
If a professional requests to join a client’s Care Team as backup, the client must accept before backup access begins.
If the client’s authorized primary professional invites a backup, the invited backup must accept. Once accepted, they can join as backup without another client approval because the authorized primary professional initiated the invitation. If the client invites a backup directly, the invited professional must accept before the connection becomes active.
Receiving or entering a backup invitation link or code does not itself grant access. The invitation must be valid, and the required person must accept. No care information is shared through a pending connection or request before that acceptance.
Join the invited care team
- Use the email address on the backup invitation. If you need an account, choose I was invited as backup care, then Doula or Midwife.
- Sign in and open Invitations.
- Review the inviter, backup role, and included clients before accepting.
- Open the client workspace to see the care information and actions allowed for that assignment.
What the assignment covers
Backup care applies only to the clients included in your active assignment. It does not give access to every client in another professional’s practice. A backup relationship stays separate from a primary relationship; accepting backup care does not make you the client’s primary professional.
Clients can see their active primary and backup members in Your care team and remove connections using the available Care Team controls.
Subscriptions and primary capacity
Eligible invited backup care does not require a paid plan just for that assignment. Backup assignments do not consume primary active-client capacity. A paid plan may still be needed for your own primary-client workspace.
When backup care ends
A backup assignment depends on its qualifying primary relationship. Ending that primary relationship can also end the related backup assignment. Other active assignments or a separate workspace subscription are evaluated separately.
